Alex Nicodemus is a New York City-based pianist, educator, and composer whose musical background spans both the classical and jazz traditions. A graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, Alex was recognized as the 2024 DownBeat Magazine Outstanding Undergraduate Jazz Soloist, one of the nation’s highest honors for emerging jazz musicians. He began studying classical piano at the age of seven, performing works by composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Liszt, and his early classical training continues to shape his technical and artistic approach to music. At eighteen, he began performing professionally throughout Cincinnati, appearing in schools, jazz clubs, concert halls, churches, and community events before relocating to New York City. Today, Alex is especially known for his exceptional improvisational skills and deep understanding of jazz performance while remaining equally passionate about classical music. As a teacher, he works with students of all ages and experience levels, helping them build strong technical foundations while encouraging creativity, musical expression, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for music. Whether teaching classical repertoire, jazz improvisation, or contemporary styles, Alex strives to create engaging, personalized lessons that inspire students to reach their full musical potential while developing both technical excellence and artistic individuality.
